One of the questions I get most often as an executive leadership coach is: “How do I scale without burning out or wasting resources?”
My answer almost always begins with a simple philosophy I lean on time and time again: crawl, walk, run.
It’s not flashy. It’s not complicated. But it works. Let me show you how.
Crawl: Finding Your Baseline
A client I worked with, let’s call her Laura, had a brilliant idea for a consulting business. She wanted to launch with multiple service packages, a polished website, and a full marketing plan.
But here’s the truth: none of that was necessary to begin.
I asked her: What’s the minimum viable product (MVP) you need to test this idea? For Laura, it was one simple offer she could pitch directly to her network. No bells. No whistles. Just value delivered clearly.
That was her crawl. And it got her moving.
Walk: Building Strength
After Laura signed her first clients, she was eager to “do it all.” But instead, we focused on iteration. Every client conversation was treated like an experiment. What worked? What needed adjusting?
She began documenting processes, refining her offer, and slowly layering in support tools. Instead of sprinting, she walked with intention.
At this stage, growth wasn’t about being perfect. It was about testing, learning, and setting a standard she could build on.
Run: Scaling with Confidence
Once Laura’s foundation was solid, she could finally run. With proof of concept, strong systems, and clarity on her value, she expanded her services, hired her first contractor, and confidently began scaling her revenue.
Because she honored the crawl-walk-run progression, Laura skipped the chaos many entrepreneurs experience when they try to scale too soon. She didn’t just grow her business — she grew her capacity as a leader.
The Lesson for Leaders
Everything in business is an experiment. The goal isn’t perfection on day one; it’s momentum, clarity, and iteration.
Crawl with your MVP.
Walk by building and refining.
Run when you’re ready to scale.
This framework has helped me coach executives, solopreneurs, and growing companies into six and seven figures — not through shortcuts, but through smart, sustainable growth.
At Business with Wisdom, I remind every client of this truth: Build on. Scale smart. Lead wisely.
And let’s face it, Laura = ME! Is Laura you??
